Reflecting on Chapter ten of Zen training: methods and philosophy, leads me to think of three thought stages discussed in terms of my own experience.
First, it occurs to me that I like a woman in the bus, but I don't know who this woman is. This is an instance of universal thought that Hegel talks about. Sometimes this is more specific. This woman is your type, you like each other, ask her contacts. This is immediate variety of Hegel's logic.
Second, now, sometimes I would say to my self don't ask her any thing. This could be an instance of the Hegel's negative or even mediation, I would argue about it.
Third, I would take more concrete action, give me your number or I will get off the bas or I will remain sitting as if I felt or thought about nothing. All this is an instance of what Hegel calls concrete.
This three thought stages is what the author is talking about or something along that line.
Each stage builds on the previous one, this is more on the third stage, as the author notes, which conforms to what I noted in my experience: what you do now will influence what you will do next.
This is another way saying Karma, whatever you think about or more significantly what you do is what will influence your identity and what you will do next. If so, choose your thought-action, and you have chosen your future.
This is the most general form of thought and action tabulation that I came across
